It's the time of the year where we have to think hard and choose someone who can represent us. Someone who understands our woes, someone who understand our needs, someone who's ready to carry the world on their shoulders-EVERYDAY. Yea, I know some of my friends are running for MPM this year. I just want you guys to know how big the responsibility is. Running for that position goes way further than just the glory of winning it. Sure I know, your face would be pasted throughout the campus and stuff and of course there's the certificate too.
If there is one thing that I can ask from these candidates is that I want them to run it for the people they are representing. Not for themselves. That's the whole point of it, see? Majlis PerWAKILan Mahasiswa. I hope you noticed the word WAKIL there. Do you know what that means? Let me tell you what that means. It means that thousands of people who rooted for you will be hoping that somehow by choosing you, things will be better. Believe me, none of those voters voted you so that you can get the title and glory. If that's what you're in the election for, then I suggest you turn around and dig deep into your heart. Because you should be ashamed of yourself.
And let's say you win. What would you do then? Would you stay true to your manifestos? Would you stay true to your promises? Or are they just sweet little lies to get people to vote for you?
Candidates, please be aware of what you are running for. I hope you do realize that if you win this election, you would be considered the leader of thousands. Before you run, ask yourself whether you are really worthy of it. How are your relationships with your kins and friends? Because how can you be the friend of thousands when you can't even be a good friend to one who has stick by your side this while? Won't you repeat the same mistake and betray the friendship you formed between thousands of people? Dig deep into your soul and answer this.
Be sure that you will make a difference. If not, there would be no difference between you and people who only knows how to 'cakap banyak' but in the end does nothing. Because those kind of people can be found anywhere and they do no good - AT ALL.
So for all of you candidates out there. Before you do this, say your prayers. Ask your God to guide you in what you are doing. May your God lead you to the everlasting truth.
May the light be with you and make you a beacon of light & may you make a difference in this year's MPM.
And to the voters out there who are just like me, the decision is in your hands. For me, even if my friend is running but I don't find them worthy/ready for the position, I won't vote for them. Why? Because friends don't do butt kissing or use their friends, friends always tell the truth and do what's best for their friends. I am and will be doing what I think is best for you whether you like it or not.
Till then,
Samuel, E. E.
